Police seek nominations for block club, youth leader awards
It’s time again to honor the neighbors and organizations that make a difference in our communities. The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) is seeking nominations for both the tenth annual Building Blocks Awards — bestowed on block clubs that connect neighbors, prevent crime and take on neighborhood issues — and the Teresa S. Ruhland Youth Award, given to a Minneapolis volunteer who successfully involves youth in the community.
Nominations for both awards are due Friday, Feb. 6. All block clubs that didn’t win the 2007 award may apply, and block clubs are welcome to nominate themselves.
Applicants should explain how the club has improved life in the community or block, how it connects people and works with the MPD, and what sorts of events, activities and meetings the club has, how it started and the block’s boundaries. The nominator should include name, address, phone number and email for each of the block club’s leaders.
Youth award nominations should explain how the nominee’s work with youth has improved life for young and old alike in the community by describing how the individual has helped youth build community, involved youth in safety education and crime prevention and worked with youth to resolve community problems. The nomination should include name, address, phone number and email for the nominator and the nominee.
Honorees for both awards will receive an award street sign or plaque, a gift card and recognition at a public ceremony.
Submit nominations for both awards by e-mail to: ccpsafe@ci.minneapolis.mn.us;
