A month of tributes at The Cabooze

Cash, Joplin, Band, Marley featured starting Jan. 16

The post-holiday freeze makes January a good month to seek cover, and The Cabooze – at 917 Cedar Ave. near the Franklin Avenue LRT station — is offering a lot of them, with four tribute shows this month.

The homage-paying begins Jan. 16–17 with the ninth-annual “Cash Only IX: Tribute to the Man in Black.” (That’s Johnny Cash, you know.) The local lineup includes Sherwin Linton, Trailer Trash, Ol’ Yeller, White Iron Band, Janis Figure, Baby Grant Johnson and Dave Babb. The Friday show is 18+; Saturday is the drunk show (21 and older). Tickets are $12 in advance.

The following weekend, The Band and Janis Joplin get their due. On Friday, Jan. 23’s The Big Pink presents “A Tribute to The Last Waltz,” with a lineup of local musicians and guests playing the parts of the seminal, star-studded Band. (21+, doors open at 8:30, $12.)

The next night, Sat. Jan. 24, pays tribute to Janis Joplin’s birthday with Cheetah Nunchuck. (18+, doors at 8:30 p.m., $8.) And finally, The Cabooze closes January out with a two-night nod to Bob Marley with the 17th Annual “Songs of Freedom: Bob Marley Remembered” on Jan. 30–31. (18+, Doors at 8:30 p.m., tickets $10 in advance, $15 at the door.)

There’s much more going on at The Cabooze, of course, including Kevin Costner (yes, that Kevin Costner) and Modern West on Jan. 27 (tickets $25).
