University Baptist madrigal dinners, Dec. 5–6

University Baptist Church (UBC) invites one and all to take the evenings of Dec. 5 and 6 away from the holiday bustle to feast amongst royalty and revel in “gud companye” at its first-ever madrigal dinner. The evening will feature food, fun and an old-world theme; guests are invited to wear period attire.

Singers, dancers, actors, and instrumentalists will perform throughout the “feast in grand fashion” — including the UBC Chorale, Vivian Hotchkiss on flute and Terrance Olson on harpsichord.

“Think Monty-Python meets Shakespeare meets Braveheart, without the blood, and with better music,” said UBC’s pastor, Doug Donley.

Dinner consists of beef stew in bread bowls, catered by the Purple Onion, as well as some wassail (both as a drink and a verb) and old-fashioned bread pudding with caramel sauce.

Part of the proceeds will go to support UBC’s music program; tickets are $35 ($20 for students), $20 of which is tax-deductible. Tickets can be ordered online at www.ubcmn.org or by calling the church at 612-331-1768; tickets are not available at the door. UBC is located at 1219 University Ave. SE.
