Lawmakers should address public safety instead of bike laws

Letter

Rep. Phyllis Kahn, at the urging of Ward 2 City Council Member Cam Gordon’s office, has introduced legislation next year to suspend rules for cyclists to obey stop lights and signs. As a city cyclist myself I can see the common sense in this approach. As a home owner and taxpayer of the district for 35 years, I would be better served if these two would use their time and resources to increase public safety by obtaining more police patrols and tightening judicial rules for keeping criminals off our streets. One must remember, though, Rep. Kahn has also introduced legislation for 12-year-olds and noncitizens to be given the right to vote.
