Nicollet Island East Bank Neighborhood Association (NIEBNA)

Mar. 19 board meeting:

PHILLIPS FAMILY RENOVATES OLD FITTERMAN GALLERY: Dean Phillips from the Phillips Family Foundation and Phillips Distilling Company presented his family’s plans to restore the historic Dolly Fitterman Gallery. The Gallery, located at University and Central in Minneapolis, will be used as offices for the foundation and company.
Deborah Everson from Domain Architecture and Design, the firm hired for the project, described plans to repair stained glass windows and skylights that have been covered by plywood for more than 70 years. Domain will work with landscape architects to create a public garden and keep storm water from running off the property. “I’m a passionate preservationist,” said Phillips. “I’d like to think that it’ll be a jewel for the neighborhood.”
The board agreed to provide a letter of support for the project in time for the HPC meeting on March 20, when Phillips and Everson met with the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) on March 20. The only contested aspect of the plan is proposed covered parking adjacent to the building, according to WHOM?
SUPERIOR PLATING SITE REDEVELOPMENT: Superior Plating president Mike McMonagle told the board that design proposals had been sent out to 16 firms with a March 31 response deadline. There has been one response from a Denver firm thus far.
POLICE SUBSTATION FUND RAISER: The annual fundraiser will be May 3. The location is yet to be decided.
